The Dental Implant Process
- The process begins with an examination and 3D CBCT imaging to enable Dr. Marlowe to evaluate the available bone, nearby roots, and anatomy, as well as the ideal position of the future implant crown.
- The implant is then digitally planned with the final tooth position in mind. A surgical guide is often used for single-tooth implants to improve the precision and predictability of placement.
- During the surgical appointment, the area is thoroughly anesthetized, and the implant is placed. Routine bone grafting can be performed at the same appointment when needed. Most single-implant procedures are completed with local anesthesia, although additional sedation options can be discussed when appropriate.
- The implant then heals and integrates with the surrounding bone, usually over several months. Once healing is complete, Dr. Marlowe restores the implant with a custom abutment and definitive ceramic crown designed to blend with the surrounding teeth.
- One advantage of our approach is that planning, surgery, and the final restoration can generally be completed in the same office and coordinated by the same dentist.

Home Care Tips
- Following implant surgery, you will receive instructions regarding cleaning the surgical area, diet, medications, swelling, and activity during the initial healing period.
- In the long term, an implant should be cared for much like a natural tooth. We generally recommend brushing thoroughly twice daily, cleaning carefully around the implant crown and gumline, flossing, or using an interdental cleaning device daily.
- Maintain regular professional cleanings and implant examinations.
